Five Ways to Clean Clogged Drains Naturally
Isn’t it the worst when you have clogged drains? Whether you’re trying to get the dishes done, taking a shower, or flushing the toilet, it’s so annoying! Of course there are plenty of commercial clogged drain busters, but they’re not good for the environment, nor are they good for your septic tank. Here are 5 options to clear clogged drains without harsh chemicals.
Baking Soda and Vinegar
These 2 ingredients prove to be a clogged drain killer!
- Pour a pot of boiling hot water down the drain.
- Dump in a ½ cup of baking soda and allow that to sit for a few minutes.
- Pour 1 cup of vinegar and cover the drain opening allowing the chemicals to react below the surface of the drain.
- Follow that with another pot of boiling water.
Hydrogen Peroxide and Baking Soda
Mix a cup of hydrogen peroxide with a tablespoon of baking soda. Pour the mixture down the drain and let it foam away. Hopefully, this will break up the clog and leave you with a clear drain.
Plunger
Every home should have a plunger. Sometimes the problem can be solved as simply as a few pumps of the plunger. This creates enough force to suction out whatever is clogging the drain. If it’s still causing trouble after plunging, pour some hot water to the toilet when you flush it next.
Snake
A plumbing snake is another handy item to keep around the house. If plunging isn’t getting the job done, often times a drain snake will get it done.
Enzymatic Drain Cleaners
Enzymatic drain cleaners can also be a safer alternative to chemical drain cleaners; they too are easier on the environment. By using bacteria or enzymes that feed on organic waste materials, like hair and food, they digest the waste, reproduce, and spread throughout the septic system.
