Spring Forward – Things to Consider as Homeowners
For many of us, Daylight Saving time means change the time on the clock, change the batteries in the smoke and fire alarms and enjoy the later sunsets. We do have the best sunsets around. But there are other things to consider as homeowners.
Daylight Saving time is a good time to consider putting some other checklists into place to keep your home running in tip top shape. Here are our top four tips.
- Change the timer on your pool. The timer on your pool is no different than the clock on your microwave, so unless you want your pool filter running at odd hours, change it to reflect the new time.
- Change the timer on your irrigation system. Not only is it good to have it running at the right time, but changing it to the proper time will keep it running either prior to sunrise or after sunset (the best times to water lawns). It’s also a good time to check and see if your municipality has changed water restrictions. Check their website and make any changes necessary.
- Change appliance filters. This includes air conditioners, water filtration systems, air purifiers, and vacuum cleaners. Yes, some of these need changing more often than twice a year, but it’s always a good idea to check them anyway.
- Drain the water heater. From time to time a water heater needs to be drained to remove the sediment from building up. Built up sediment can reduce the efficiency of the unit over time. The quality of water in your area determines how often the unit needs to be flushed.
