Keep Your Air Conditioner Running Smoothly with Pets in Your Home
If you have pets, you know that means you need to vacuum more, and clean your house more often than the average homeowner. But have you ever stopped to think about what that means for your air conditioner? Being pet owners means excess hair, and pet dander, which means more maintenance is necessary to keep your air conditioner running in tip top shape. Here are some of our tips to keep your air conditioner running smoothly.
Filters
Being a pet owner might mean your AC filters need to be changed more often. Pets shed, and dander can build up easily. Once the dander becomes airborne and gets trapped in the filter, your AC unit will run harder as it tries to cool your home. If you have more than one pet, or if you suffer from allergies, this will only increase the need to change the filter more often.
Grooming
Keeping your pets groomed on a regular basis can help to prevent the amount your pet will shed in the home.
Air Vents
Filters aren’t the only place that can become clogged with pet dander, air vents can too. When you’re vacuuming your home, vacuum the air vents too to remove the dust and hair from them. Most vacuums today come with HEPA filters on them which help to trap dander.
Portable Air Filter
Using a HEPA Air Filter can help to reduce the amount of hair and dander that goes into your air filters. Typically though these units are only useful for one room. So while they do help, they won’t provide too much help unless you have a few and use them in many rooms.
