Summer Swimming Safety Tips

Swimming Safety Tips from LaPensee Plumbing & Pools Inc

Summer is finally here. The kids are out of school and it’s time for you to get the pool cleaned up. As temperatures continue to climb in Florida, the pool becomes the central hub for your family – and as parents, you worry about their safety. Thus, it is important to remember the safety tips for swimming listed on the American Red Cross’ website. Here are a few of the most important pool safety tips:

  • Always swim with a buddy; do not allow anyone to swim alone.
  • Never leave a young child unattended near water – even for a second!
  • Maintain constant supervision.
  • Sign your children up for summer swimming lessons.
  • Secure your pool with appropriate barriers.
  • Avoid distractions when supervising children around water.
  • Have appropriate equipment, such as reaching or throwing equipment, a cell phone, life jackets and a first aid kit.
  • Enroll in Red Cross home pool safety, water safety, first aid and CPR/AED courses to learn how to prevent and respond to emergencies.
  • Protect your skin! Limit the amount of direct sunlight you receive and wear sunscreen with a sun protection factor (SPF) of at least 15 and reapply often!
